Rooftop Wedding at the W Loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Rooftop Wedding at the W Loft
This rooftop W Loft Brooklyn wedding was one I was looking forward to all year. I mean it’s in Brooklyn, on the roof, in October, with clients who are like an extension of myself – what more could you want?
Pre-wedding, though, things got…difficult, and there was never an opportunity for us to meet or have an engagement session. It’s rare for us to not meet our couples pre-wedding, but that didn’t make our photographer-couple relationship any different. In fact, I received a message from them right after season 1 of quarantine, (around June-ish) and it just said the sweetest, most affirming things. Nearly brought a tear to my eye; felt like even without meeting the two of them, we’d get along swimmingly.
Come wedding day, the whole gang (bride, groom, immediate fam, bridal party) is getting ready in the Airbnb, and it honestly felt like normal life.
SOME WORDS FROM THE COUPLE
“It all started with “Happy Wednesday”. Those two words were enough to charm Jamie into driving from East Meadow to BedStuy — because of course, Patrick picked a beer hall in Brooklyn for a first date. Drinks at Berg’n led to an afternoon at the Met, a walk on the High Line, skipping work so that we could keep walking the High Line, and before we knew it, Patrick was flying back to Arizona for Christmas. Two weeks felt like an eternity, but we realized then that we had something special.
“The next few years saw a lot of changes come our way. We moved in together, we adopted our first dog Sally Bowls, Jamie went to grad school to become a teacher, Patrick attended AppAcademy to study web development, we bought our first apartment in Williamsburg, adopted our second dog Seymour Mushnik, and started new jobs in the education and technology fields.
“All of which led us to Cabo San Lucas. After a Tuesday full of eating, drinking, and snorkeling the two of us were sitting on the balcony overlooking the ocean. As Tuesday turned to Wednesday, Patrick turned and said “Happy Wednesday. Will you marry me?”
WHERE TO HAVE A ROOFTOP WEDDING IN NYC
It’s every photographer’s dream to a beautiful rooftop wedding, and there is no place more special or perfect for this than the W Loft in Brooklyn, New York. Seriously, this is one of the coolest venues I’ve been to.
The entire vendor team (listed below) was spectacular, and the NYC skyline views are absolutely unbeatable. I can’t imagine this location being anymore ideal, and I can see it working for every season of the year.
The ceremony took place on the uncovered portion of the rooftop, right by the waterfront balcony; a perfect backdrop. The reception was just up the steps — still on the roof — and under a tent; the tent acted as sort of a just-in-case-it-rains-or-gets-too-windy plan. String lights lined the interior, heat lamps kept us warm, and there were cute little rugs for the couple to do their first dance.
I'm melissa -- mel, for short. i'm an aries, lover of 60s and 70s music & aesthetics, and i can (probably) quote 90% of breaking bad.
I think the most important thing when photographing your wedding is getting to know you as individuals, and as a couple. Too often, photographers will apply a "one size fits all" approach; but photos and poses that worked for someone else may not work for you. It's my job to adapt to you, not the other way around.
