Engagement Shoot in Brooklyn by NYC Wedding Photographers Sava Studio
Engagement Shoot in Brooklyn
When Ariyan and Yen told us they wanted their engagement photos to be done on 4×5 film, we had only one response: hell yes. We had the same response when they asked us to photograph their NYC City Hall elopement. We’re NYC wedding photographers who also went to photo school, so we have had our fair share of both digital and film photography classes. We kind of geeked out at the opportunity to shoot some at-home portraits in Brooklyn with 4×5 film.
WHY TAKE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS?
The photo session is a really important step for building a solid relationship with your photographer. It also will give us the chance to get to know you, find some common ground (maybe we’re all equally disappointed in how Game of Thrones ended, but that’s beside the point), etc. Our goal for the session is just for you guys to have fun and be yourselves.
SHOOTING WITH FILM
Photographing an engagement with a large format camera allows for the whole day to be more intimate. It might sound a little strange, but slowing down just a little bit gives us more time to talk, to get you and your partner acquainted with being in front of the camera, and to test out some of our really corny jokes. You’ll also definitely receive tons of compliments to help you feel just a bit more confident.
This is also probably the most NYC wedding photographer thing we’ve done.
Throughout the entire session, it was dark and cloudy. Our solution was to place a light just outside the window cranked all the way up to 6200K. Dark and cloudy who?

I'm melissa -- mel, for short. i'm an aries, lover of 60s and 70s music & aesthetics, and i can (probably) quote 90% of breaking bad.
I think the most important thing when photographing your wedding is getting to know you as individuals, and as a couple. Too often, photographers will apply a "one size fits all" approach; but photos and poses that worked for someone else may not work for you. It's my job to adapt to you, not the other way around.
