Breakneck Ridge is a beautiful, scenic, mountain straddling Beacon and Cold Spring, NY. If you’re an outdoorsy person or if you love to hike, this trail is one of the best. In addition to being great for hiking, this is also the perfect place for summer engagement photos. And you don’t even have to hike to get to the top.
Why take engagement photos at Breakneck Ridge?
When I was location scouting for this engagement shoot, the only thing I knew I was looking for was: scenery. Breathtaking, show-stopping scenery. I was about to give up on the perfect location when my jaw actually dropped while driving past it. I immediately found a parking spot and made my way to the little entrance.
The “hike” was about 5-7 minutes to get to the amazing spot we ended up using for photos. Even at the height of summer, it was almost completely secluded.
It is easy enough to get to, and also surprisingly easy to find a parking spot on the side of the road. There is also essentially a clear cut path to the most photogenic spot. With the mountaintop’s privacy, convenience, and perfectly intimate seclusion, it’s a no brainer to have your engagement photos taken here. And like I said, you definitely do not have to be an outdoorsy person to appreciate this place. I am the last person you would want with you on a hike or at a camping trip, and I almost couldn’t bring myself to leave this spot.
What to bring to a mountaintop engagement session
I would recommend a few things: two pairs of shoes, a picnic blanket, lots of water, and (maybe) a longer pair of pants. No one wants any cuts or scrapes in their photos!
I basically know this location like the back of my hand now, and would happily come back for lots more engagement sessions.
