Thad and Lily entered (and won) an engagement session giveaway with us in pre-pandemic times. We made some photo magic in Prospect Park and since then, I’ve been anxiously awaiting their wedding day. When it finally came – despite all the things 2020 has thrown at us – it was like a breath of fresh (normal) air. I may have cried a few times. Their small backyard wedding at Lily’s family estate exceeded all of my expectations.
MORE THAN JUST CLIENTS
I’m the type of person who seeks for meaningful connection in every single one of my relationships. It doesn’t matter if we only work together for one day, I’ll always do my best to make it worth your while. After all, you are inviting me to your wedding.
From the start, Lily & Thad struck me as people who are not only are adorably in love, but also people who I could see being part of my life after all is said and done. We follow each other on twitter, check in with each other regularly, and I know NYC will miss them when they move.
LOCAL VENDORS AT A SMALL BACKYARD WEDDING
One thing that was extremely important to this bride and groom was: local vendors. Their photography team (AKA, us) is local to their last home in Brooklyn, NY. The dance floor was DJ’ed by none other than their good friend Nick, and he definitely brought all the 90s R&B hits. And don’t get me started on the outrageously delicious cocktails, provided by the bartender of their favorite local bar. Backyard weddings in the town you grew up in are the perfect place to show some love to small businesses.
I'm melissa -- mel, for short. i'm an aries, lover of 60s and 70s music & aesthetics, and i can (probably) quote 90% of breaking bad.
I think the most important thing when photographing your wedding is getting to know you as individuals, and as a couple. Too often, photographers will apply a "one size fits all" approach; but photos and poses that worked for someone else may not work for you. It's my job to adapt to you, not the other way around.
